Two snowmobilers airlifted from backcountry after crash in Grand County
Grand County Search and Rescue responded to a Christmas Eve snowmobiling crash that resulted in two riders getting transported by air for further medical care.
According to a press release from the rescue organization, the incident took place in the Church’s Park area of Grand County, with both riders on a single snowmobile at the time of the incident. Grand County Search and Rescue responded with Grand County EMS and the Grand County Sheriff’s Office.
Medical assistance was provided to the snowmobilers at the scene and then the patients were transported to a helicopter landing zone in Church’s Park. At that point, two separate helicopters were used to transport the patients to further care due to the nature of their injuries and the location.
Details related to what caused the crash were not released, though the search and rescue organization did make a point to remind the public that snowpack is currently quite thin. Given the lack of snowpack, more hazards exist when snowmobiling making it best to either avoid this activity or exercise extreme caution and ride at a lower speed at this time.
