1 dead in Sunday evening Aurora crash
One driver died and three others were seriously injured in an Aurora crash Sunday evening.
The Aurora Police Department responded to a crash report in the 2300 block of South Gun Club Road — just west of the Murphy Creek neighborhood — around 5 p.m., according to a news release from the department.
Witnesses claimed that a Jeep made “multiple unsafe passing maneuvers” by swerving into the southbound lanes. In one attempt, the Jeep rear-ended a Lexus, police said.
After hitting the Lexus, the Jeep abruptly swerved back into the oncoming lane and collided with a Tesla. The female driver of the Jeep was pronounced dead at the scene. Two passengers were taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.
The driver of the Tesla was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries, but is expected to survive, police said.
Initial investigations found that speed and alcohol are suspected contributing factors.
The identification of the victim will be released by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office following an autopsy and notification of family.
