Broncos elevate LB Levelle Bailey to face Chargers
Levelle Bailey has spent the season on the Broncos’ practice squad but at least will get into his third game Sunday.
Denver on Saturday elevated the linebacker from the practice squad to face the Los Angeles Chargers in the regular-season finale at Empower Field at Mile High.
Bailey spent much of his rookie season of 2024 on the active roster, getting into 10 games. But he was waived at the end of the preseason in August and then was signed to the practice squad.
Teams can elevate a player from the practice squad up to three times in a season. Bailey was elevated for the opener against Tennessee but didn’t get his second elevation until Dec. 25 at Kansas City.
Bailey has been needed for the final two regular-season games because starting linebacker Dre Greenlaw is out after suffering a hamstring injury Dec. 21 against Jacksonville. The Broncos also have elected not to activate rookie linebacker Karene Reid off injured reserve after designating him for return Dec. 17. Reid will miss his seventh straight game Sunday after suffering a hamstring injury Nov. 6 against Las Vegas.
Bailey on Sunday is expected to play on special teams and provide depth behind starting linebackers Alex Singleton and Justin Strnad and top reserve Jordan Turner.
If Bailey finishes the season on the practice squad, he would be eligible to sign a futures deal with the Broncos for the 2026 season. However, it remains to be seen if he would want to do that or would explore other teams.
