Avalanche forward Gabriel Landeskog leaves game with upper-body injury, will ‘miss some time’
Gabriel Landeskog exited the game with an injury in the second period of Colorado’s game against the Florida Panthers on Sunday.
While skating towards the net, the Avalanche captain lost an edge and fell awkwardly into the net, with the left side of his body hitting the goalpost at full speed. Landeskog stayed down on the ice for several minutes before Avalanche trainer Matt Sokolowski and Nathan MacKinnon had to help him off the ice and into the locker room.
Landeskog did not move much on his own while heading to the locker room. Colorado’s captain did not returned to the game with what the team is calling an upper-body injury. That means it’s unrelated to the knee injury that caused him to miss the previous three seasons, but given how much pain Landeskog was in after the collision, there’s reason to be concerned regarding his status moving forward.
After the game, Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar said Landeskog is still being evaluated, but will “miss some time.”
Landeskog has seven goals and 22 points this season after missing nearly three years of hockey while recovering from cartilage replacement surgery in his right knee. He has dressed in all 40 games this season and is a big reason why the Avalanche are currently the best team in the NHL.
