Broncos’ John Franklin-Myers inactive vs. Chargers with hip injury
Broncos defensive lineman John Franklin-Myers was inactive Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers after having been listed as questionable with a hip injury.
Franklin-Myers had played just 11 snaps Dec. 25 at Kansas City and was limited in practice all of last week.
Also inactive for the Broncos for the regular-season finale at Empower Field at Mile High were linebacker Dre Greenlaw, ruled out Friday with a hamstring injury, tight end Marcedes Lewis, tackle Geron Christian, outside linebacker Que Robinson and cornerback Reese Taylor.
To replace Franklin-Myers, defensive linemen Jordan Jackson and Sai’vion Jones were both active. It was Jackson’s first time active since Oct. 5 at Philadelphia.
According to Spotrac, Franklin-Myers has a $30,000 bonus per game for when he is active this season. This was the first game that Franklin-Myers, who has a career-high 7.5 sacks, has missed this season.
By being inactive, Lewis won’t join Jerry Rice as the only players in NFL history with a catch in 20 different seasons. Barring an injury at tight end, Lewis is a candidate to be waived before Denver’s first playoff game, with a possible return to the practice squad.
The Chargers, who have locked up a playoff berth and know they will open on the road, rested a number of starters. Inactive were star quarterback Justin Herbert, who had been ruled out last Monday by coach Jim Harbaugh, defensive back Elijah Molden, safety Derwin James Jr., running back Omarion Hampton, outside linebacker Tuli Tuipulotu, offensive lineman Jamaree Salyer and center Bradley Bozeman.
