Broncos practice squad moves include signing Michael Deiter, re-signing Geron Christian, Marcedes Lewis

The Broncos have gotten their practice squad in order for the playoffs.

Denver on Wednesday signed center Michael Deiter to the practice squad and re-signed tackle Geron Christian and tight end Marcedes Lewis to the practice squad after they had been waived off the 53-man roster Monday. Christian’s agent, Vince Taylor, told The Denver Gazette on Tuesday that his client would join Denver’s practice squad.

To make room, Denver released guard Nash Jones and center Joe Michalski from the practice squad. The Broncos had entered Wednesday with one opening on their allowed 17 members on the squad.

Deiter, a 2019 third-round draft pick by Miami, has appeared in 92 NFL games, with 35 starts for the Dolphins, Houston and Washington. Deiter, who appeared in two games this season for Washington, provides depth with center Luke Wattenberg on injured reserve, and starter Alex Forsyth and Sam Mustifer are the only two centers on the active roster.

Christian had been plucked off Dallas’ practice squad Nov. 11 and didn’t get into any games the rest of Denver’s regular season while being on the 53-man roster. Lewis, 41, who originally signed Oct. 29 to the practice squad, played in four games.

The Broncos (14-3) have a bye in the wild-card round of the playoffs after locking up the AFC’s No. 1 seed. They will return to practice Friday in preparation for a home divisional playoff game Jan. 17 or 18.
