Police looking for driver who allegedly struck officer in Commerce City
A driver allegedly injured two Colorado State Patrol troopers Thursday morning near Commerce City before fleeing the scene.
CSP was conducting a “team operation” on Interstate 76 near the Sable neighborhood around 9 a.m., according to a news release from the agency. During the operation, one of the troopers attempted to pull over a white four-door BMW M235i for failing to yield to the stopped emergency vehicles.
During the stop, the male suspect “refused to exit the vehicle and became combative with the troopers before fleeing the scene,” CSP said.
Troopers attempted to pull the driver from the vehicle, breaking a window. The driver then allegedly struck one of the troopers with the car before fleeing eastbound taking the southbound exit onto Sable Boulevard toward 104th Avenue.
The officer who was hit jumped into their patrol vehicle and attempted to follow the suspect, but due to weather conditions, skidded into a concrete median.
Both troopers involved reported to the hospital and were released as of a subsequent news release at 4 p.m. The department is still searching for the vehicle and will release a better description and license plate soon, according to the release.
