National Western Stock Show breaks opening weekend record

The National Western Stock Show opened its 120th anniversary show on Saturday and Sunday — breaking attendance records along the way.

The first two days of the 16-day event saw 118,919 people clomping boots and tipping hats at the Stock Show’s stomping grounds in northern Denver — breaking the NWSS record for opening weekend attendance, according to a news release from the nonprofit.

While it’s not actually the 120th consecutive show due to the COVID pandemic canceling the 2021 show, it is the 120th year the stock show has existed.

Many likely came out of curiosity to see the two newest buildings at the complex.

NWSS’ 120th celebration also includes the grand opening of the 30-acre Sue Anschutz-Rodgers Livestock Center and The Legacy, the National Western Stock Show’s new world headquarters.

On Sunday, hundreds of people walked through the complex with hulking new buildings shimmering in the background. “Oohs,” “ahs” and “howdies” were heard all around.

“The 2026 National Western Stock Show is off to an incredible start. With record-breaking opening weekend attendance, it’s exciting to see so many guests celebrating this Western tradition as we mark our 120th anniversary,” Wes Allison, first-year CEO and president of the National Western Stock Show, said in the release. “Watching fans experience the expanded campus and new facilities while the traditions that define the Stock Show remain front and center has been rewarding.”

The event saw 658,109 visitors in 2025, placing it firmly in the top 10 list for most-attended Stock Shows, but 2026 may give that record a run for its money.

There are still 13 days of Mountain West fun still to be had, with various vendors, rodeo shows, livestock auctions, competitions and Western eats.

Tuesday is Free Grounds Admission Day, with NWSS allowing anyone to come see the complex and activities for free.
