Armed carjacking suspect shot, officer injured after Highlands Ranch chase
A chase late Monday through Highlands Ranch culminated in a chaotic scene in a Littleton mobile home park where an armed carjacking suspect was shot and a deputy was hit by a vehicle, officials said.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said it all started around 8:30 p.m. when it received a bulletin from the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office about an armed carjacking at South Broadway and Panama Drive.
A Flock camera spotted the suspect vehicle a short time later at County Line Road and Colorado Boulevard. Deputies flooded the area to search for the vehicle and found it on the west side of Highlands Ranch, Douglas County Sheriff Darren Weekly said in a video posted on the department’s X account.
Deputies tried to stop the vehicle, but the suspect fled, Weekly said.
“That pursuit led all over the Highlands Ranch area,” Weekly said.
The chase ultimately came to an end near County Line Road and Santa Fe Drive in a mobile home park. That’s where deputies and the Littleton Police Department worked together to execute what Weekly called a “TVI” — a tactical vehicle intervention — which means law enforcement officers used their vehicles to disable and pin the suspect vehicle.

“At that time the suspect began immediately ramming the vehicles and one of my deputies was hit by a vehicle,” Weekly said, adding that the deputy was “bloodied and bruised” but was expected to be OK. He was treated at a local hospital.
During the incident, the suspect rammed into the deputy, injuring the officer, according to a news release from the office Tuesday afternoon. Then, as deputies approached the suspect’s vehicle, Weekly said the suspect fired shots at them through the windshield of the suspect’s vehicle.
“Our deputies returned fire,” Weekly said.
The suspect was hit in the gunfire exchange and was injured, but Weekly said he is expected to survive.
The deputy was also taken to the hospital for treatment but is expected to be OK, the office said in the release.
“We’re very fortunate that this situation isn’t much worse than it is,” Weekly said.
Weekly said the Littleton Police Department is investigating the scene where the chase came to an end and the 18th Judicial District’s critical response team is investigating the officer-involved shooting.
The suspect, who was not immediately identified, was arrested and is expected to face “significant charges,” Weekly said, including attempted murder of a peace officer.
A passenger in the suspect vehicle was also taken into custody, but it was not immediately clear what charges that individual could face.
