Woman dies after getting hit by semi-truck on I-70 near Glenwood Springs

A female pedestrian died on Wednesday evening after she was hit by a semi-truck on Interstate 70 just west of Glenwood Springs, authorities said.

The semi-truck, towing a trailer at the time, was driving westbound on the interstate when the woman entered the right lane while walking south through the highway just after 7 p.m. Wednesday, according to a news release from Colorado State Patrol.

The truck hit the woman. The driver initially stopped, but left the scene before the police arrived, according to the release. Authorities said they have identified him and are working to find him.

The woman, a 47-year-old from Glenwood Springs, was pronounced dead on the scene. She will be identified by the Garfield County Coroner after her next of kin is notified, authorities said.

The interstate was closed in the eastbound direction for about five hours while the initial investigation took place, according to the release. Any witnesses are asked to call 970-249-4392 with case reference number VC260017.
