A German baron named Lutz flies in to see kicker Wil Lutz and Broncos in playoff game

There will be royalty at Saturday’s game.

Lutz Freiherr Von Entress-Fursteneck, a German baron who lives in Berlin, flew to Denver on Friday and will attend the divisional playoff game between the Broncos and the Buffalo Bills at Empower Field at Mile High. The German Lutz is a big fan of Denver kicker Wil Lutz and will wear a Broncos jersey with “Lutz” on the back.

The German Lutz told The Denver Gazette in London last fall that he has been a Broncos fan for 35 years, and that the Broncos’ 13-11 win over the New York Jets there on Oct. 12 was the first time he had seen them play in person. While he does have the nobility title of baron in Germany, he stressed it is not exactly like being a royal in England and that he is a real estate agent.

“It’ll be the first time I see the Broncos in Denver live,’’ he said Friday after his arrival. “Maybe it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience to watch a playoff game in Denver. I’m so excited.”

For a round-trip flight from Berlin leaving Friday morning and returning Monday, he said he spent $1,000. He bought a ticket for the game on the secondary market for $950, including fees, to sit in section 120.

“It’s a playoff game, it’s do or die,’’ he said. “That’s the most important thing. It’s incredible.”

The German Lutz, now 62, received as a gift from his nephew a No. 60 jersey with “Lutz” on the back on his 60th birthday on May 17, 2023. Three months later, the Broncos acquired Lutz, the kicker, in a trade from New Orleans, and he became the favorite player for the German Lutz. He hopes when in Denver to get a No. 3 jersey, which Lutz wears for the Broncos.

“He’s playing fantastic,’’ said the German Lutz. “I’ll cross my fingers for him (Saturday).”

While his flight back to Berlin is on Monday, the German Lutz said there’s a chance he might stay over or fly back to Denver if the Broncos win and make the AFC Championship Game on Jan. 25. In that case, Saturday’s game might not be a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
