Lakewood looking for board and commission applicants

The City of Lakewood needs new people to help shape the city’s future — and past.

The city has various volunteer roles open for boards and commissions, including the budget financial oversight committee and historical preservation commission, according to a news release from Lakewood.

“Help shape Lakewood’s annual citywide budget or planning by applying for the Budget & Audit Board or Planning Commission,” the city said.

The Budget & Audit Board — which oversees financial decisions, reviews financial statements and budget forecasts, and provides feedback on budgetary compliance with city policies — has one open, three-year seat available.

The Historic Preservation Commission also has one seat open. The commission locates and protects historic buildings within the city.

The members are selected by the City Council.

Applications for both positions are due by 5 p.m. Jan. 20.

The city’s Board of Appeals, which makes decisions about appeals of any requirement or order by the code administrator, has three seats open. Applicants are required to have building construction experience.

The Planning Commission has one seat open in Ward 2 and one in Ward 3. Applicants must live within those specific areas to apply.

The commission is responsible for preparing, updating and adopting the city’s Comprehensive Plan and for providing recommendations to the City Council, according to the news release.

Both the Planning Commission and Board of Appeals applications are due by 5 p.m. Feb. 8.

The Lakewood Advisory Commission, which researches specific issues and provides recommendations to the City Council, has multiple seats open. Applications do not have a deadline.
