Denver’s newest professional team meets in person for the first time

DENVER — For the first time since its roster began taking shape, Denver Summit FC brought its players, coaches and executives into the same room.

The gathering on Saturday marked the club’s first full-team media availability — and, for many players, the first time meeting their teammates face to face — as the expansion franchise prepares for its inaugural season in the National Women’s Soccer League.

The event, a hat-making gathering at a Denver business, was informal by design. But inside the room, players and staff described a sense that the project had crossed an important threshold.

“The energy is palpable,” said defender Janine Sonis, a Colorado native. “It’s such a positive feeling, and it’s so exciting to finally be here all in one room.”
