BMC INVESTMENTS NAMES A NEW PARTNER

After a national search, Denver-based developer BMC Investments named a new partner to help lead the firm.

The development company announced it chose Matthew Karp as its new partner and chief investment officer. Karp will run investment strategy, acquisitions, developments and asset management platforms for BMC Investments, according to a news release.

Karp previously came from Amstar, a real estate private equity firm where he led its U.S. investments as CEO. He also worked in senior roles at Cerberus Capital Management, Savanna Partners, TriSpan LLP and CPG Real Estate.

BMC Investments is the developer behind Cherry Lane, the major redevelopment project of the former Sears store in Cherry Creek. It also has many multifamily, mixed-use and hotel projects across the country.

“After an exhaustive national search, I believe we found the right leader for BMC and I’m incredibly excited to welcome Matthew as a partner,” said Matt Joblon, founding partner and CEO of BMC Investments, in a release “His deep expertise and insights will be instrumental as we continue to grow BMC in a strategic and sustainable way.”

The developer is working to expand its leadership team to continue growing in the Denver metro area and across the U.S., the company said in a news release.

NEW CFO AT IMA

IMA Financial Group, an insurance brokerage firm based in Denver, hired a new chief financial officer.

The company announced last week it named Suzanne van Staveren as its CFO. She was previously the CFO and chief operations officer at Edelman Financial Engines and held several financial positions at Goldman Sachs.

She began her role on Jan. 5.

“As CFO, Suzanne will be a key architect of our growth, helping shape our financial strategy and ensuring we scale with both confidence and discipline,” said Rob Cohen, IMA Financial Group CEO and owner of the Denver Summit F.C., in a release.

The company also announced several other changes with its leadership. It split its East operations into the Southeast led by Drew Pippin and Northeast led by Mike Bodack.

The new Northeast office that covers Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New York and Pennsylvania hired Stephen DeMatteo as its chief operating officer. The firm also named Melissa Morle as Westchester Market President and Andrew Krantz as New York City Market President as the company looks to build its operations in New York.

“Five years ago, IMA expanded into the East with 35 associates. Today, we employ approximately 600 associates across 10 locations,” Cohen added. “Realigning into Southeast and Northeast regions makes our leadership structure even stronger, positioning us to better serve our clients and continue growing with clarity.”

BURLINGTON EXPANDS WITH NEW STORE IN AURORA

Burlington Stores, the national discount retailer, is opening a new store in Colorado.

The chain based in New Jersey announced last week it will open a new store in south Aurora in the Spring. It’ll be Burlington’s 17th store in the state, according to a news release.

The new store will be at 7360 South Gartrell Road in the Saddle Rock Village, the shopping center along E-470.

The store will feature Burlington’s new modern store design, which has wider and “more organized” aisles. Burlington said it has converted more than half of its stores to the new format and plans to finish converting its remaining stores by the end of 2026.

Burlington has more than 1,200 stores in 46 states.
