Man dies in Denver sheriff’s custody at Downtown Detention Center
A man died in custody of the Denver Sheriff’s Department Tuesday morning while in a housing unit at the Downtown Detention Center.
A medical team was first called to the unit around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday after the man was found to be non-responsive, according to a Tuesday news release from the department.
The team performed life-saving measures on the man, but he was pronounced dead shortly after, according to the release.
The man’s identity and cause of death will be released by the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner pending an autopsy and the notification of his next of kin.
A spokesperson for the department said that the man had been booked into the detention center on Friday and was in a cell by himself.
