A look at 30 athletes with Colorado ties who are headed to the Olympics

With its opportunity for outdoor recreation and active culture, it’s no surprise that Colorado sends plenty of athletes to the Olympics, especially for winter sports.

Here’s a look at some of the athletes from Colorado headed to the Olympics this year:

  1. Charlie Mickel

Mickel is a Durango native and has been named to the U.S. Olympic moguls team for the 2026 Winter Olympics. According to a press release, Mickel grew up skiing Purgatory Resort and trained with the Durango Winter Sports Club. He fills one of four U.S. men’s moguls spots at the Olympics this year.

2. Mikaela Shiffrin

Shiffrin qualified for her fourth Olympics in December, after earning six wins this season, including her 108th win (winning her ninth slalom World Cup), record-setting win in the slalom at Czechia. Shiffrin is from Edwards, and already has two gold medals and a silver medal in three Winter Olympics.

3. Lindsey Vonn

The Vail resident came out of retirement in 2024 and qualified for her fifth Winter Olympics this year. Vonn earned her 83rd World Cup win last month and has already won three Olympic medals in her career.

4. River Radamus

Radamus is competing in Alpine Skiing this year in his second Olympics. According to CPR, he came close to making the podium in 2022 when he was one-tenth of a second away from a bronze medal in the men’s team giant slalom. Radamus is from Edwards.

5. Alex Ferreira

Milano Cortina 2026 will be Ferreira’s third Olympics. Ferreira is from Aspen and has earned a silver medal in the 2018 games and bronze in the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing. According to CPR, he is also an 11-time World Cup winner and has won seven medals at the Winter X Games.

6. Red Gerard

Gerard is a Silverthorne resident and is hoping to make the podium in his third Winter Olympics, according to CPR. Gerard competes in snowboarding, and won a gold medal at the 2018 Winter Games and finished 4th in 2022.

7. Nina O’Brien

O’Brien is a San Francisco native but now a Denver resident. She will be competing in Alpine Skiing. She won gold in the mixed parallel event at the 2023 World Championships.

8. Elizabeth “Liz” Lemley

At age 20, Lemley is headed to the Olympics after debuting as the youngest skier during the 2021-2022 FIS Freestyle Ski World Cup circuit when she was 15 years old. Lemley is a Vail native.

9. Annika Belshaw

Annika Belshaw began ski jumping at age nine in her hometown of Steamboat Springs. This will be her first year competing in the Olympics.

10. Maddy Schaffrick

Also from Steamboat Springs, Schaffrick is representing the U.S. for the first time at the Winter Games after coming out of retirement nearly a decade ago. According to CPR, Schaffrick placed third at the 2024-2025 World Cup opener in China in her first competition back.

  6. Birk Irving (Winter Park) – Halfpipe
  7. Svea Irving (Winter Park) – Halfpipe
  8. Riley Jacobs (Oak Creek) – Halfpipe
  9. Tess Johnson (Vail) – Moguls
  10. Lauren Jortberg (Boulder) – Cross-country skiing
  11. Ellie Kam (Colorado Springs) – Pairs figure skating
  12. Niklas Malacinski (Steamboat Springs) – Nordic combined
  13. Oliver Martin (Vail) – Snowboarding slopestyle, big air
  14. Kyle Negomir (Littleton) – Alpine Skiing
  15. Daniel O’Shea (Colorado Springs) – Pairs figure skating
  16. Hunter Powell (Fort Collins) – Bobsled
  17. Jaccob Slavin (Erie) – Ice Hockey
  18. Hailey Swirbul (El Jebel) – Cross-country skiing
  19. Landon Wendler (Steamboat Springs) – Moguls
