Van carrying hockey team crashes with CDOT plow, driver dead
The driver of a van carrying a hockey team from California died Thursday morning after the van crashed into a plow and two other vehicles.
Eight others in the van, including four children and three adults, were taken to an area hospital by ambulance after the crash, which took place on Interstate 70 eastbound just east of Loveland Pass, the Colorado State Patrol said in a Thursday morning news release.
An additional child was taken by medical helicopter to a trauma center with critical injuries and another adult man declined medical attention, according to the release. There were a total of 10 people in the van.
The two other passenger vehicles involved in the crash remained on the scene and did not report any injuries, according to the release.
Photos provided by CSP show the Colorado Department of Transportation truck lost its plow during the crash. They also show the van lying on its side several feet off the right side of the roadway.

The interstate is closed in the eastbound direction at Silverthorne as crews respond to the crash, and it is unknown when the roadway will reopen, according to the release. Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes but not Loveland Pass, as current weather conditions have rendered it unsafe.
The driver’s identity will be released by the Clear Creek County Coroner pending an autopsy and notification of family. The CSP Vehicular Crimes Unit is investigating the crash and will release more information later.
