A teen was arrested by Aurora Police Friday after he fled the scene of a fatal crash he allegedly caused by running a red light.

Jonathan Garcia, 19, faces vehicular homicide and reckless driving charges after he ran a red light at the intersection of North Peoria Street and East 13th Avenue and t-boned a Volvo sedan with his Chevy Trailblazer around 8 p.m. Friday, according to a news release from the Aurora Police Department.

The adult driver of the sedan was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after, according to the release. A 1-year-old child in the sedan was also hospitalized, and remains there in serious condition.

After he was confronted by a witness at the scene of the crash, Garcia allegedly ran away from the area, according to the release. Responding officers used drones equipped with infrared sensors and found the suspect in the nearby Nome Park, located near the crash site.

Investigators believe Garcia was speeding on North Peoria Street and may have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash, according to the release. The victim will be identified by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office at a later date.
