Colorado zoo nominated for ‘best zoo in the US’ award
Cheyenne Mountain Zoo has been nominated for ‘Best Zoo in the U.S.’ in USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards for the tenth consecutive year.
Readers can vote daily through Monday, March 9. Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is also nominated for best zoo membership.
Located on a mountainside above Colorado Springs, the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is celebrating its 100 year anniversary in 2026. Founded in 1926, the zoo now gives visitors a chance to interact with hundreds of animals that represent species from across the world. Guests can see meerkats, African lions, Cape porcupines, vultures, colobus monkeys, and even feed giraffes. The Rocky Mountain Wild exhibit is home to regional species including moose, grizzly bears, and mountain lions.
Members at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo get perks including free daytime admission year-round, early entry on Saturdays, free evening visits to Electric Safari, and discounts on the Mountaineer Sky Ride and seasonal events like Boo at the Zoo. Members also get to vote on which projects the zoo focuses on.
USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards is a program that highlights the best in destinations, food and drink, hotels, and things to do across the country. An expert panel nominates their top picks in each category, and readers vote to determine the winners.
The winners for the best zoo and best zoo membership category will be announced on Wednesday, March 18.
