Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy

The company said the move stems from a wrongful death lawsuit that awarded the family of a 6-year-old girl more than $200 million.

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. — Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Tuesday but said they plan to continue operations as normal.

The company said in a statement the filing was due to a large judgment against them related to the death of 6-year-old Wongel Estifanos. Her family of filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Glenwood Caverns Holdings in October 2021 after Wongel died from blunt force injuries sustained in a fall from the Haunted Mine Drop ride on Sept. 5 of that year.

In September 2025, a jury awarded the family more than $200 million.

A state investigation found that Wongel was not properly buckled and, in fact, was sitting on the seatbelt. It concluded the fatality was the result of “multiple” operator errors.
