Kaidan Mbereko nets season-high 38 saves as Colorado College hockey tops St. Cloud State on the road

A season-high 38 saves from Kaidan Mbereko were more than enough to help Colorado College hockey to a 4-1 victory at St. Cloud State.

The win allowed the Tigers to grab four points on the road after they had fallen in overtime on Friday.

“Just proud of our guys,” coach Kris Mayotte said. “Not just the win. We really talked about the details that it takes to win hockey games this time of year.“

Drew Montgomery scored a pair of goals and assisted on another for the Tigers.

The Huskies (16-16-0, 9-13-0 NCHC) led 39-27 in shots on goal, but Mbereko turned away all but one shot from Adam Ingram in the first period that tied the score.

Mbereko did the bulk of the work in earning his 56th career win in the final period, where he made 18 saves that included four during a power play.

The Tigers (12-14-4, 6-10-4) had pulled ahead with two goals in the second period.

“I thought Kaidan Mbereko was outstanding,” Mayotte said. “We had a lot of guys play really well, but he was probably our best tonight.”

Colton Roberts and Connor Hvidston also scored for CC, which kept alive hopes of earning home ice for the first round of the NCHC Tournament.
