Denver museum unveils major expansion plans for longtime exhibit hall

The Denver Museum of Nature & Science is set to transform its Gems & Minerals Hall with a 50% expansion.

DENVER — The Denver Museum of Nature & Science is preparing a renovation of one of its permanent exhibit halls.

The museum announced its Coors Hall of Gems & Minerals Hall will close on April 15 for one of the “most ambitious” permanent renovations in its history.

The Denver Museum of Nature & Science said the hall will be 50% larger and will be renamed the Dea Family Gems & Minerals Hall due to a “transformational gift” from donors Cathy and Peter Dea.

The museum said the project was shaped by public feedback with more than 8,800 survey responses, over 650 interviews, and 24 hours of workshops shaped its direction.
