Denver weather: Sunny skies, warm temperatures on Thursday

Sunny skies and warm temperatures are on tap in Denver on Thursday as the city gets a slight reprieve from breezy winds, meteorologists said.

The National Weather Service in Boulder said to expect a high near 63 degrees on Thursday in Denver. That’s about 14 degrees warmer than the average high for Feb. 26 in Denver, according to weather service archive data.

Expect winds of about 10 to 14 mph with gusts up to 22 mph, but it’s a slight break from the breezy conditions that forced meteorologists to issue Red Flag Warnings in Denver on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Don’t be fooled though, conditions are still extremely dry and ripe for wildfires across the state.

“Elevated fire weather conditions are forecast across the plains today due to warm, dry, and breezy conditions,” the weather service said.

Meteorologists have issued a Fire Weather Watch that goes into effect Friday in Denver from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. as winds are expected to kick back up across the metro area.

Up in Colorado’s high country, snow showers are expected to taper off, but slick travel is still possible Thursday, the weather service said, especially over mountain passes.

Tonight, in Denver, expect mostly clear skies with a low around 32 degrees. Skies are expected to be sunny and clear in Denver through Saturday, before a slight chance of rain moves into the forecast on Sunday, forecasters said.
