Denver Nuggets complete roster with veteran point guard
The Nuggets filled their 15th and final standard roster spot on Monday.
Veteran point guard Tyus Jones agreed to sign with the Nuggets, according to an ESPN report. Jones will be eligible for the playoffs since he was waived by Dallas prior to the March 1 deadline.
The 29-year-old started the season in Orlando and ended up in Dallas as part of the trade that sent Anthony Davis to Washington at the trade deadline. He’s appeared in 56 games this season between the Magic and Mavericks, averaging 3.1 points, 2.6 assists and 1.1 rebounds. He’s a career 37.2% shooter from 3-point range, though that number has dipped to 28.1% this season.
The only time in his career he averaged more than one turnover per game was the 2024-25 season when he played nearly 27 minutes per game for the Phoenix Suns.
The 6-foot guard received votes in the Sixth Man of the Year race as a member of the Grizzlies in 2022 and 2023. The Minnesota native spent one season at Duke before being selected with the 24th pick of the 2015 draft.
Jones gives Denver more depth behind Jamal Murray. Bruce Brown and Jalen Pickett were the only other options for much of the season, as Denver carried 14 players for much of the year.
Jones will not be available for Monday’s game in Utah but could make his Nuggets debut Thursday against the Lakers.
