CDOT starts $2 million bridge maintenance on I-270/U.S. 36 over I-25
The Colorado Department of Transportation has begun preventative maintenance on the bridge carrying U.S. 36 and Interstate 270 over Interstate 25, a $2 million effort to repair early wear, improve driving safety and delay a full replacement in a heavily traveled Denver-area corridor.
Work started March 1 on eastbound U.S. 36 at mile point 57 over I-25, according to a CDOT news release. Crews are removing deteriorated deck concrete and installing new approach slabs and joints, moving westward across the bridge. The scope will expand the week of March 30 to include the southbound I-25 off-ramp to eastbound I-270 at mile point 217.
The project includes ground stabilization, modular bridge joint replacement, new approach panels and drainage inlet protection upgrades. The department said the repairs will deliver a smoother road surface, reduce hydroplaning and water pooling risks during storms, and extend the bridge’s lifespan by addressing deterioration before it demands major reconstruction.
Eastbound U.S. 36 traffic at mile point 57 is reduced to one lane for the duration, with at least one lane remaining open at all times. Night work runs 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, with single-lane closures in March.
Daytime hours begin April 1, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, continuing through September 2026. Motorists should expect minor delays and use caution near narrowed lanes and equipment.
The schedule is subject to weather and other adjustments. Completion is anticipated by the end of October 2026.
Real-time road conditions and closures are available at COtrip.org or through the COtrip Planner app. Alerts can be subscribed to via CDOT channels.
