Former Colorado State star David Roddy to join Denver Nuggets

David Roddy is coming back to Colorado.

The former Colorado State star is joining the Nuggets on a two-way contract, The Denver Gazette confirmed Wednesday. HoopsHype was first to report Roddy’s addition.

Roddy has bounced around the NBA since being drafted by Philadelphia with the 23rd pick of the 2022 draft. The 6-foot-5 forward was traded to Memphis a day after the draft. He was traded to Phoenix in the middle of his second season and last season played for the Hawks, 76ers and Rockets. The 24-year-old has played in 168 NBA games across three seasons and averaged 6.2 points, 2.9 rebounds and one assist, while shooting 42.1% from the field and 30.2% from 3-point range.

Roddy spent this season with Toronto’s G League affiliate before he joined the Nuggets.

Denver waived Tamar Bates to make room for Roddy. The Nuggets quickly signed Bates after he went undrafted out of Missouri, but a broken foot in December prevented Bates from making his NBA debut.

Roddy, the 2022 Mountain West Player of the Year, will provide forward depth for a Nuggets team that was without Aaron Gordon, Peyton Watson, Spencer Jones and Cam Johnson against the Jazz on Monday night. He joins former Colorado standout K.J. Simpson and Curtis Jones as Denver’s two-way contracts for the remainder of the season.
