Aurora police increase reward for 2024 cold fatal shooting case

The Aurora Police Department doubled the reward for information about a 2024 cold case fatal shooting to $4,000 Friday.

The suspect in the shooting, which took place outside a convenience store in the 12000 block of East Colfax Avenue around 3:30 a.m. on June 21, 2024, killed 27-year-old Preston Guillory, the department said in a Friday news release.

Guillory was shot multiple times during the incident and was pronounced dead on the scene. Based on video surveillance footage and evidence gathered from the scene, investigators believe there were several witnesses in the area at the time who have not yet come forward.

“Investigators believe there were several bystanders in the area at the time of the shooting who have not yet spoken with police,” Violent Crimes Section Lt. Sean Mitchell said in the release. “We are urging anyone with information to come forward. Even the smallest detail could help us hold the person responsible accountable, bring justice for Preston and provide his family with the answers and closure they deserve.”

In a video of the potential suspect provided by the department, an apparent man dressed in a white hooded sweatshirt and black pants appears hunched over while walking near the location of the incident.

The increased reward is valid for six months. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at (720) 913-7867 and can remain anonymous.
