Mayotte agrees to five-year extension through 2030-31with Colorado College

Colorado College hockey coach Kris Mayotte will remain in downtown Colorado Springs for the foreseeable future.

Mayotte, who has led the program for the previous five seasons, agreed to a five-year contract extension, which runs through the 2030-2031 season, CC announced Tuesday.

The news comes after the Tigers were ousted from the National Collegiate Hockey Conference tournament this past weekend, ending the season. CC finished 13-17-6.

“In my role as the athletic director, it is my responsibility to provide stability and vision for the hockey program, and Kris is the right leader to instill those things,” CC Vice President and Director of Athletics Lesley Irvine said in a release. “We have strong momentum, tremendous talent, and are positioned competitively in this new landscape. Kris and his staff have a clear plan, and we support him fully. Our goal has been — and continues to be — to win championships and compete in the best league in the country. Kris’ passion for Colorado College and his knowledge of what it takes to win at the highest level make him the right leader for the Tiger program. We are excited for what’s to come.”

In the 2022-2023 season, Mayotte led the Tigers to the NCHC championship game after CC swept Western Michigan in the quarterfinals and beat rival Denver in the semifinals.

The following season, Mayotte earned NCHC coach of the year honors as the Tigers earned their first 20-win season since 2010-2011. The Tigers tied for third in the conference and hosted their first playoff series since 2012. That season, netminder Kaidan Mbereko and top-line center Noah Laba were named All-Americans.

Laba now skates with the New York Rangers and is one of 16 NHL draft picks Mayotte has recruited in the past two seasons.

“I am incredibly grateful to President Manya Whitaker and Lesley Irvine for their unwavering support and belief in me, our staff, and the future of Colorado College Hockey,” Mayotte said in a release. “It is a great honor to continue leading such a proud and historic program, and I am fully committed to making it the top college hockey program in the country. My belief in this goal is fueled by the exceptional resources provided by the college and our donors, as well as the commitment and pride of our season ticket holders and alums. I am proud of the foundation we have built on many levels and believe more today than ever in what this program is capable of accomplishing.”
