A warm and sunny day is on tap for Denver on Wednesday.

The National Weather Service in Boulder said to expect temperatures to climb to 62 degrees in Denver on Wednesday. That’s about 8 degrees warmer than the average high for March 11 in Denver, according to weather service archive data.

The record high for this date was 79 degrees set 126 years ago in 1900.

Denver is expected to get a break from the gusty winds during the day on Wednesday, but it is expected to kick back up in the evening when gust could reach up to 37 mph, forecasters said.

Colorado’s northeastern plains will experience elevated fire weather conditions on Wednesday as winds gust up to 35 mph throughout the day, the weather service said.

“Winds will start to increase over the higher Front Range Mountains and foothills late tonight, and strengthen into Thursday morning,” forecasters said.

There’s a 30% chance of rain in Denver Wednesday night between 8 p.m. and 3 a.m., the weather service said.

“A prolonged period of significant fire weather conditions is shaping up for Thursday through Saturday as winds strengthen and humidities drop,” forecasters warned.

Winds on Thursday could gust at 60-70 mph along the foothills and the Wyoming border, and 80-90 mph in parts of Boulder and Larimer counties, the weather service said.

Xcel Energy said it is considering shutting off power in some areas on Thursday as a safety precaution.
