Lakewood bus driver accused of sexual assault of 10-year-old
A bus driver for Jefferson County Schools in Lakewood was arrested this week after a student reported being sexually assaulted.
According to a social media post from Lakewood police, the department was notified on March 4 of a possible sexual assault. A 10-year-old student reported to police that a bus driver, identified by police as Robert Charles Watters, 64, was engaged in an inappropriate relationship.
Watters turned himself into police on Thursday, the post said. He was booked into the Jefferson County Jail, where he remained Friday on a $10,000 bond. Watters faces a felony charge of sexual assault of a child, pattern of position and trust.
The release said Watters has worked for Jefferson County Public Schools since 2018. Police also asked for anyone with information about Watters or who may have been a victim or witness to contact the department at (303) 763-6800.
This marks the eighth sexual misconduct-related incident throughout Jeffco Public Schools between the end of 2023 and March 2026, including an investigation into David Weiss, the school district’s former chief of schools, that involved possession of child sexual assault material in December 2024.
