2 injured in explosion at Denver gas station
DENVER — Two people were injured in an explosion and fire at a Denver gas station Thursday afternoon, the Denver Fire Department said.
Firefighters were called to the Shell station at the area of 5th Avenue and Bryant Street around noon Thursday. Operations Division Chief Robert Murphy said when firefighters arrived, they saw there had been an explosion and the entire building was on fire. A vehicle on the back side of the building was also on fire, Murphy said.
Both victims were taken to the hospital with blast and burn injuries, firefighters said. It’s unclear how badly they were injured. Murphy said they were walking around when first responders arrived.
Initial reports indicated a vehicle had crashed into the building, but Denver police later said it appears there was no crash.
