Denver weather: Record highs continue with critical fire conditions in place

Another scorching March day for Denver residents, with record highs in some areas.

The National Weather Service in Boulder said to expect sunny skies and temperatures reaching as high as 85 degrees in Denver on Friday. That’s about 5 degrees hotter than the record high for March 20, which was set in 1907, , according to weather service archive data.

The record high for that day was 80 degrees.

Denver is expected to stay hot into the weekend, with a fire weather watch in place, particularly for parts of the Front Range in urban corridors, foothills and high mountain valleys due to the record-breaking heat and low humidity this season, the weather service said.

Things will cool off slightly on Sunday with highs reaching 67 before returning to the high seventies and low eighties next week.

“This summer-like heatwave will lead to critical fire conditions expanding across much of the forecast area on Sat.” The National Weather Service in Boulder said on Twitter. “The recent update to Sat’s Fire Weather Watch now includes the foothills and mountain valleys. Avoid any activity that may produce a spark & start a fire!”

Critical fire conditions will likely trickle into next week, as high winds build up again after temperatures cool down on Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.
