Wildfire near Colorado Springs grows to over 4,000 acres
The 24 Fire has grown to 4,600 acres with zero percent containment as of Sunday morning, according to the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office.
According to an update posted to Facebook by the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday morning, the fire has continued to move in a northeast direction. However, the sheriff’s office said that overnight crews made good progress. Also, winds shifting east and cooler temperatures are expected to help efforts to contain the fire.
In an update at 11 a.m. on Sunday, the sheriff’s office said the fire has grown to 4,600 acres.
State Highway 115 is still closed from mile marker 18 (near K Street) to mile marker 39 in El Paso County, and there is no estimated reopening time. The sheriff’s office said that the closure is important to “ensure the safety of firefighters and allow crews to operate effectively.”
According to the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office, the evacuation shelter at Pathfinder Park is still in place and open to individuals, pets, and livestock.
