The Regional Transportation District is boosting rail capacity and adding security for fans heading to the Denver Summit Football Club’s inaugural home opener Saturday at Empower Field at Mile High.

The agency expects a ridership surge for the noon matchup against the Washington Spirit. To handle the crowds, the agency will add extra cars to the D, E and W lines, which serve the stadium directly or connect through Denver Union Station. The agency is also hosting a tailgate from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. outside the Chestnut Pavilion at Union Station for E Line riders. The booth will offer treats and giveaways, and Impact Team members will help with questions and wayfinding.

Fans can reach Empower Field at Mile High station on the E and W lines or transfer at Union Station from the A, B, G or N lines. Nearby bus routes include the 30, 31, 1, 15L and 16, with additional connections via the Flatiron Flyer and Routes 0, 9, 10, 15, 20 and 32.

In a statement, RTD encouraged riders to use the Next Ride trip planner by entering “Empower Field” as the destination for real-time options and departure times. The agency also reminded fans to prepare for large crowds, especially after the game, and to sign up for Service Alerts in case planned demonstrations affect connections.

Transit Police and security will have an increased presence at stations and stops near the stadium. Auraria West Station will close at 10 a.m. because of expected crowds; riders should use Empower Field at Mile High Station instead. It will reopen about an hour after the game ends.

Parking is available at metro-area Park-n-Rides for those driving partway. The agency suggested skipping ticket vending machines by using the MyRide app for a Day Pass or Tap-n-Ride contactless payment with a Visa, Mastercard or mobile wallet.

The agency also recommended downloading the Transit Watch app to report any safety concerns.
