Denver weather: Red Flag Warning despite cooler temperatures and clear skies
A cooler but mostly sunny day is on tap for Denver on Friday.
The National Weather Service said to expect temperatures to be cool throughout the state, with the high for Denver around 53 degrees. Winds are forecasted to be stronger than normal, reaching gusts of up to 36 mph.
Despite the cooler temperature, Denver and the entire eastern half of the state have been given a Red Flag Warning until 7 p.m. tonight. The critical fire danger is due to high winds and low humidity.
“We recognize humidity will likely be just short of criteria due to considerably cooler temperatures, but at the same time, we will have a very dry air mass taking charge,” the weather service said. “Despite the very light rain Wednesday evening, fine fuels dried Thursday and remain crisp and
prone to rapid fire spread, especially considering the strength of winds.”
While Denver and the rest of the plains are expected to remain dry, the mountains will receive light snow showers, adding to the snowfall from the last few days.
The weekend, sunny skies, and temperatures in the mid-60s have been forecasted, with an expected high of 67 degrees on Easter Sunday.
Tonight, expect a low of around 30 with “blustery” winds as high as 31 mph.
