After her son’s death, mother of CU football player pushes to prevent another
More than a month after a University of Colorado Boulder football player was killed in a single-car crash near the university campus, his mother says she is still learning how to live with the loss.
“All I want to do now is turn my pain into some kind of purpose,” Dominiq Ponder’s mother, Catrina Hughes, said.
She has launched the 722 Foundation in her son’s name — an effort, she said, aimed at encouraging young people to make safer decisions and avoid impaired driving.
According to the foundation’s fundraising page, the initiative also seeks to support outreach in schools and communities, including speaking engagements focused on decision-making and accountability.
