Fishers Peak State Park in southern Colorado near Trinidad is a more recent addition to Colorado’s state parks system. The park features rugged topography, abundant wildlife, and 9,633-foot Fishers Peak, which it was named after.

While the entire space the park spans isn’t open to the public right now, it’s still worth checking out. The area is called Fishers Peak Trailhead and it’s a gateway to over 16 miles of trails for hiking and biking.

History of the park:

The park property was bought in February 2019 through a collaboration between the City of Trinidad, The Nature Conservancy, the Trust for Public Land, Great Outdoors Colorado, and Colorado Parks and Wildlife. What recreation it’s known for:

Fishers Peak State Park is known for its backcountry hunting opportunities. The park offers opportunities to hunt turkey, mountain lion, elk, deer, and bear.

Holiday Inn Express & Suites Trinidad by IHG – this hotel is located Trinidad, close to the park, and offers on-site dining and an indoor pool.

La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Trinidad – also located in nearby Trinidad, this hotel offers easy access to Fishers Peak State Park.

Goldenrod Trail – 4.7 miles

Lower Lone Cub Trail – 1.7 miles

Osita Point Trail – 0.3 miles

Upper Lone Cub Trail – 1.2 miles

Only a section of the park is open to the public right now. Fishers Peak Trailhead leads to over 16 miles of trails for hiking and biking.
