Man gets nearly century-long prison sentence after shooting up Greeley bar
A man was sentenced to 96 years in prison this week after he was convicted of firing 59 shots into a Greeley bar after being kicked out.
Jimmy Cazares, 33, was convicted by a jury in February of committing the shooting, which happened in November 2024 at Wyler’s Pub and Brew in the 2300 block of 27th Street in Greeley, according to a news release from the 19th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
Police responded to the bar and found a female employee of the bar had been shot multiple times, including in the neck.
A second employee was in the line of fire but was not hit. Both employees survived the shooting.
Cazares had been kicked out of the bar 40 minutes prior because of fighting.
He was convicted of two counts of attempted murder after deliberation involving a deadly weapon, two counts of attempted murder due to extreme indifference with a deadly weapon, possession of a weapon by a previous offender, possession of an unserialized weapon and criminal mischief causing damages between $20,000 and $100,000. He was also convicted of two drug-related counts, according to the release.
“My life changed forever that night,” one of the victims said during Wednesday’s sentencing hearing, according to the release. “I never could have imagined I was being shot at. I firmly believe I died for a brief moment.”
Cazares faced a maximum of 134 years in prison.
“It’s only by the grace of God that no one was killed that night,” Deputy District Attorney Lacy Wells said in the release. “He gunned down two women at a local, community establishment and clearly has no respect for
human life.”
“Damage didn’t stop when the bullets stopped,” Wells added. “These victims of this horrific and senseless crime will live with the mental, emotional and physical damage the rest of their lives.”
