CPW to host ‘Get Outdoors Day’ in small Colorado town
Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) is hosting the annual Grand Valley Get Outdoors Day event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Island Acres section of James M. Robb – Colorado River State Park on April 25.
According to CPW, the free event is great for those wanting to learn outdoor skills including fishing, shooting, safe wildlife viewing, and more.
“This is a great opportunity for people of all ages to try out new outdoor activities and get some hands-on instruction, all while enjoying time outside,” said District Wildlife Manager Jace Zundel.
CPW staff and volunteers will be at the event helping those new to using outdoor equipment learn, so no prior experience or equipment is necessary.
CPW encourages participants to bring their fishing equipment, although there will be fishing poles and tackle available. However, CPW says to not bring any firearms because they will be provided. Participants that are 16 and older must have a valid fishing license to participate in the fishing events.
Attendees of the event will also get the chance to interact with threatened and endangered native fish in the Colorado River at the “touch-a-fish” truck. Guests will get the opportunity to see and touch razorback suckers, an endangered native fish in the Colorado River.
The event is in its 18th year, and was created to encourage participation in outdoor activities, especially among younger generations, according to CPW.
