Rapid investigation leads to missing Coloradan being found at Wyoming campground
A woman who was reported missing on April 21 has reportedly been found at an RV campground a state away.
According to a press release from the Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office, concern about Mary Schenck’s, 77, well-being was raised by family members, who requested a welfare check on April 21. While deputies were unable to contact anyone at the home and didn’t have a cause to force entry, family members were soon able to gain access, finding Mary gone and reporting her missing around 10 a.m.
Mary lived with her son, 44-year-old Coy Stolpe, in Georgetown. According to authorities, evidence found at the home and “recent unusual behavior” heightened concern for Mary’s safety and whereabouts.
A quick investigative effort indicated that Mary’s son may be at an RV campground in Afton, Wyoming. Authorities noted at this time that her son was considered armed and dangerous.
Local authorities linked up with Wyoming law enforcement to make contact with Coy at the suspected RV campground later that night. At about 10 p.m., Coy was taken into custody and Mary was recovered from an RV, safe and unharmed.
Per the Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office report, Coy faces a felony charge of exploitation of an at-risk adult. The 5th Judicial District Attorney’s Office will determine final charges. Specific circumstances related to charges were not addressed in the press release on the matter. Per the press release, Coy may face charges in Wyoming, as well.
All suspects are to be considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Any charges a suspect faces are merely accusations.
