15-year-old arrested after shooting at small town Colorado park

Someone was recently shot at a park in small town Colorado, with a 15-year-old ultimately taken into custody related to the case.

According to the Ault Police Department, officers were dispatched to the Weld County town’s Wagon Wheel Park around 7:26 p.m. on April 20. Once at the scene, an 18-year-old male was found to be suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. He was given medical aid and transported to receive additional medical care, expected to survive.

Witnesses at the park provided law enforcement with a suspect description and an extensive search of the area took place involving around 20 additional officers from supporting agencies, drones, and a K9 team.

The suspect wasn’t found at the scene, but investigative work later identified the suspected shooter as a 15-year-old male from Ault. The juvenile suspect was then found at his home and taken into custody without further incident. A report on the matter did not address any potential charges that the suspect may face.

At last report, the motive for the shooting remained unknown though it wasn’t believed to be the result of a random encounter. Anyone with additional information in case who has not already been interviewed should contact Officer Penhale at 970-834-1336.
