Aurora man found guilty of killing newborn daughter
An Aurora man has been found guilty of causing his newborn daughter’s death by abusing her, authorities said.
Hector Alexandro Delarosa, 21, was convicted by a jury of child abuse resulting in death after a seven-day trial, according to a news release from the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
The police initially responded to Children’s Hospital Colorado on April 19, 2024 after a 10-day-old infant was admitted with severe injuries, which included a skull fracture, brain bleeding, retinal hemorrhages and a fractured femur. The child had been in the sole care of Delarosa, her father, and her mother at the time the injuries occurred.
Delarosa reportedly told police the injuries may have occurred while bathing her, but medical experts determined his story was inconsistent with the severity of the injuries. His story also changed multiple times during the investigation.
An autopsy of the baby later determined the injuries were consistent with blunt force trauma, and the level of force needed to cause the injuries was far beyond what could happen in a typical household accident.
The baby was placed on life support, but due to showing minimal brain activity, she was taken off life support and died on May 3, 2024.
Delarosa will be sentenced on June 29. Under Colorado law, he faces up to 12 years in prison for the class three felony conviction.
