One person was found dead after a house fire Sunday morning in Jefferson County, authorities said.

West Metro Fire Rescue responded to a structure fire in the 1100 block of South Owens Court on Sunday after neighbors called 911, reporting smoke coming from the home.

During a search of the home, firefighters encountered heavy clutter throughout the home, with large amounts of personal belongings in every room, which slowed search efforts. Crews had to remove boxes and other objects to clear a path through the structure, according to West Metro Fire.

One person was ultimately located inside the home but did not survive. The victim’s identity has not been released.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
