Happy birthday, Colorado — and Colorado sports.

Leading into the state’s 150th birthday Aug. 1, The Denver Gazette has partnered with the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame to publicize the definitive list of Colorado’s top 150 sports moments.

Colorado Sports Hall of Fame historian Dave Plati and a committee of 10 compiled and will release the list every week until the No. 1 moment on July 31. Plati and Broncos icon Jim Saccomano will unveil the list weekly on a Colorado Sports Hall of Fame podcast at coloradosports.org/podcast/.

No. 65 — Nov. 6, 1937

Colorado All-American Byron White single-handedly beats Utah at Salt Lake City, 17-7, in one of his greatest games. He returned a punt 95 yards, scored another touchdown on a 57-yard sprint, kicked a 15-yard field goal and kicked both extra points in accounting for all of CU’s points. The previous year in Boulder, he scored 25 of CU’s points in a 31-7 win over Utah. The win prevented Utah from tying CU for the league title and vaulted CU into the Associated Press Top 20 for the first time at No. 16.
