Snow Day in May: Denver-area schools announce Wednesday closures

Several Denver-area schools have announced closings and delayed starts on Wednesday after a potent spring storm dropped snow on Colorado’s Front Range from Colorado Springs to Wyoming.

Denver Public Schools announced that all schools and administrative offices will be closed Wednesday due to severe weather. Parents and students will receive the alert from the district or their schools about the closure.

It’s the school districts’ first snow closure since 2024, officials told the Denver Gazette’s news partners 9NEWS.

Aurora Public Schools, Jefferson County schools, the Boulder Valley School District, Adams 14 schools, Thompson School District and Estes Park School District are among the districts also closed Wednesday. The Douglas County School District also announced it would be closed Wednesday due to the snow, which includes the cancellation of all school activities.

Limon Public Schools announced delays on Wednesday morning.

Arapahoe County, like several government offices, announced a late opening at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

The Colorado State University campus will be closed today, according to a news release.

“All in-person, hybrid and remote classes and operations (meetings, work functions) are closed or canceled for all Larimer County campuses,” CSU official said. That includes the CSU Spur campus at the National Western Center in Denver.

The University of Colorado Boulder also announced a full campus closure for Wednesday, as did the University of Denver.
