Colorado restaurant dubbed 2nd-best in U.S. in major awards program
Food & Wine recently released its fourth annual Global Tastemakers Awards, celebrating the best in culinary travel. The categories included cities, restaurants, bars, hotels, airports, airlines, and cruises.
The list, which includes 210 destinations and brands, involved input from more than 400 chefs, wine pros, and food and travel writers around the globe. Food & Wine’s Global Advisory Board of 25 travel experts then ranked nominees, celebrating “operators who are making the food and hospitality industries stronger, better, and more innovative.”
In what’s sure to get plenty of local Centennial State press, Alma Fonda Fina in Denver took second place on the list of the top U.S. restaurants. While many people tend to think New York, Miami, or Los Angeles when it comes to the country’s best food, this selection was a step away from that trend. According to the restaurant’s website, Alma Fonda Fina is “on a mission to share the beauty of Mexican culture through food.” The contemporary fare honors Chef Johnny Curiel’s “culturally rich heritage and decades of storied experiences in his home country,” and the spot has gotten plenty of attention since its 2023 founding, even earning a Michelin star.
Another Colorado spot ended up ranking among the top U.S. bars. The Yacht Club in Denver took eighth place on that list. This “anti-club club” serves as a nerdy cocktail bar, a natural wine bar, and dive bar. When it comes to drinks, the bar leans “coastal while not being tropical” and focusing on “split-based wine forward cocktails.”
The third Colorado spot to get a nod was in the category of top U.S. airports for food and drink. Denver International Airport (DEN) ranked third among American airports. According to the airport, it is the fourth-busiest airport in the U.S. and the world’s tenth-busiest airport. It served 82.4 million passengers in 2025. The airport features over 85 dining venues, including quick-serve grab-and-go spots to full service restaurants, providing plenty of options for travelers.
