Police save stubborn beaver from intersection in Colorado
“Why did the beaver cross the road?” was surely the start of a joke in Firestone, Colorado over the weekend, after the police department performed an animal rescue that sure to be talked about for months to come.
According to the Firestone Police Department, a beaver was found in the middle of an intersection in recent days and officers sprang into action to guide it to safety. Estimated at about 16 inches tall and 35 to 45 pounds, initial efforts to scare the beaver out of the road didn’t work. Video footage captures the officers clapping and waving their arms at the stubborn beaver to no avail. Finally, officers were able to get the beaver out of the intersection by marching a traffic cone its way.
The body camera footage from the scene appears to show the beaver headed back to a nearby pond.
“All jokes aside, we’re always happy to help – whether it’s a serious emergency, a community concern, or an unexpectedly stubborn wildlife encounter,” read a social media post about the rescue from the Firestone Police Department. “We’ll be here when you need us.”
