Brighton police investigating fatal crash on US 85
Southbound U.S. Highway 85 in Brighton was shut down Friday morning as police investigated a crash that left a woman dead.
The crash happened at about 6:15 a.m., just south of the East 136th Avenue exit. According to the Brighton Police Depatment, a Chevrolet truck was traveling northbound when it struck a Toyota SUV from behind, causing the SUV to roll over off the highway onto the east side of the road.
The Chevrolet, along with debris from the crash, traveled into the southbound lanes of the highway where multiple other vehicles were struck. A driver from one of these vehicles was hospitalized with minor injuries, according to a BPD news release.
The driver of the Chevrolet, a woman, died at the scene. She was not identified by police. It is not known at this time if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
The southbound lanes of the highway between E-470 and East 124th Avenue remained closed as of 9:35 a.m. Friday. The investigation is ongoing.
