Black bear roams around Wheat Ridge neighborhood
A black bear was spotted exploring a neighborhood in Wheat Ridge on Saturday morning, according to the Wheat Ridge Police Department.
The police department said in a post on X that officers were dispatched to the area of W 32nd Ave. and Wright St. around 11 a.m. after receiving a report of a black bear in a yard.
The patrol team and community service officers tracked the bear as it moved north from yard to yard, eventually making its way to the Greenbelt area.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) was advised of the bear.
According to CPW, “most conflict between people and bears can be traced to human food, garbage, pet food, bird seed or other attractants.” Bears that become too comfortable around people can destroy property or even threaten human safety, and habituated bears often have to be killed.
