Baby raccoon found stuck and distressed after storm gets rescued in Colorado
A rather adorable animal rescue took place in Colorado Springs in recent days, and it serves as an important reminder to the public to be on the lookout for wildlife in need of help.
According to the Colorado Springs Fire Department, their team responded to rescue a baby raccoon that was found alone and distressed in a storm drain following intense weather that moved through the area. Firefighters were able to successfully get the stuck raccoon out, bringing it back to the station and finding it additional help from the Teller County Regional Animal Shelter and the Catamount Wildlife Center.
“In true firehouse fashion, the baby raccoon spent some time cozying up in a proper makeshift nursery complete with a blanket, teddy bear, and a trash can crib,” read a statement from rescuers.

If you happen to spot wildlife in need of help, call wildlife professionals to help deal with the situation opposed to trying to deal with it yourself – wildlife tends to be unpredictable, and the safest option in terms of protecting human and animal life is to let someone trained for the job handle the situation. Your local Colorado Parks and Wildlife office is a good first step, though if they’re unavailable or its outside of hours that their phones are answered, local law enforcement can also be called (typically through the non-emergency line unless there’s an imminent risk) and they’ll be able to get the right responders on the scene.
